Here are some of the TOMS teams. TOMS stands for Tournament of the Minds. In TOMS children from years 5-7 compete in a competition. They have to use their higher order thinking skills to create a short play about a certaint subject.
The first play performed for the students at Nedlands was about a young wizard who cast a spell to protect his spell book but instead erased every picture in every picture book. The story is about how the characters, such as piglet, Winnie the pooh, tiger and rabbit, fight to reverse the spell.
The second play was about three towns called ChitterChatter, Chatterlot and Chatter Town. Each town has a species of white tiger. These towns were the best of friends until one day the two towns of ChitterChatter and Chatter Town's tigers turn evil and had to build a wall between the three towns. The scientists from Chatter Lot suddenly find a cure and make a contraption to send to ChitterChatter and Chatter Town. This team won the state finals in WA and will be representing WA in the Australian finals which are held in Brisbane. There they will be put in a room, given a goal and have two hours to create another play. Afterwards they will perform it and will be judged on what they managed to create in that time given. We wish them lots of luck!
